The Met Gala is fashion’s biggest night, and Anna Wintour usually gets the biggest names. Sure, the annual event raises money for the Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but it’s about more than that. And part of what makes the gala big is the names that attend. From established celebrities to the newest it stars, the red carpet is always filled with the people fans really want to see.
But reportedly, there’s one guest Anna Wintour has dreamed of getting and has been unable to: the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. “Kate is the one celebrity Anna wants and cannot get,” one insider told Rob Shuter. “That is the obsession.”

It seems like a stretch, but it’s not unheard of. Princess Diana did make an appearance at the Met Gala in 1996, in a navy Dior slip dress, a seven-strand sapphire-and-pearl choker, and sapphire-and-diamond earrings. These jewels were later inherited by Middleton.
However, sources claim Wintour’s desire to get Middleton goes beyond the nostalgia of Diana’s appearance. “This was never only about Diana,” a source said. “Anna wanted Kate because Kate is the ultimate prize.”
Reportedly, Wintour went as far as to appeal to King Charles and Queen Camilla, hoping they could step in to sway Middleton. But the answer was still no.
“Kate understood exactly what was being asked,” one palace source said. “This was not simply an invitation. It was an attempt to make her the defining image of the night — and she had no interest in playing that role.”
Reportedly, Kate is very cautious of her image. “She was never going to turn herself — or Diana — into a Met Gala moment,” the source added.
All of this comes after royal sources told RadarOnline that Kate has developed a “deeply personal connection” to nature during her recovery from cancer. The Princess of Wales was diagnosed in 2024 and announced in early 2025 that she was in remission. However, she took some months to return to public life, and even after she has, she has remained very much focused on spending time with her kids instead of taking on a heavy schedule of public events.
“Catherine has leaned fully into spiritual wellness—some might even say she’s gone full white witch in the way she talks about energy, nature, and healing,” one insider said.
Another added, “After what she’s been through, she’s drawn to rituals of calm, reflection, and connection with the natural world. It’s less about labels and more about survival and peace.”
Middleton celebrated Earth Day 2026 with a personal message, sharing a series of landscape photos on Instagram that reflect her focus on nature. She captioned it, “When we listen to the rhythms of Mother Nature, we remember where we belong.”
The post is part of Middleton’s ongoing “Mother Nature” video project. She and Prince William have been releasing videos since May 2025, posting one per season.
