The British royal family takes protocol and security very, very seriously. Fox News Host Jesse Waters found out the hard way after a very awkward interaction with Queen Camilla during the state banquet held in honor of the King and Queen during their visit to the United States.

But what did Waters say? Well, Waters himself told the story during Wednesday night’s episode of The Five, explaining that he was among a group of people introduced to the royal couple before Tuesday’s banquet.

“We do the walkthrough where you do the introduction and then… The king had no idea who I was. And so I said, ‘I’m on Fox and I have two shows.’ And he goes, ‘Well, they must really love you here.’” Waters explained. “And so we go down, and there’s the queen, and I said, ‘Well, how was the beehive?’ And she goes, ‘It was very good. No one got stung.’

To which Waters replied, “And then I said, ‘Well, you know, it was Washington D.C., you know, if the bees don’t get you, the guns will.’” That’s when things went south. “And then this woman just starts pulling me away from them. I don’t know what I was saying. Ugh. I started mumbling,” Waters finished the tale.

All of this comes just days after President Trump and top officials were rushed to safety during the event after gunfire was heard outside the ballroom at the Washington Hilton. A suspect was taken into custody after exchanging gunfire with Secret Service agents. President Trump and top officials were not injured.

However, it has been enough to warrant an uptick in security, particularly with such high-profile visitors.

Trump himself reportedly brought up the shooting as the US President and first lady greeted the King and Queen Camilla on the South Lawn of the White House on Monday, April 27. Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the New York Post that Trump mentioned, “This shooting… .”

King Charles then reportedly said, “I’d rather not stand about here too long. I feel I shouldn’t be here.”

According to Hickling, Trump then asked Charles if he was all right, and said, “It’s not a good thing,” and “I wasn’t prepared, but now I am prepared.”

It’s no wonder that the security apparatus surrounding King Charles and Queen Camilla would not react well to jokes about gun violence, considering not just their position, but the fact that there have been actual attempts on Charles life in the past, before he was even king.  In 1994, a man in Sydney fired shots at him during a public speech. Earlier, in 1983, a plot by the IRA to bomb a Duran Duran concert at the Dominion Theatre with the intention of targeting then Prince Charles and Princess Diana was thwarted.

Fellow Fox News host Greg Gutfeld was also at the dinner and was asked what his opinion of the king was. In response, he made a very crass comment about Queen Camilla, saying that after a conversation with the King, “I took off with Camilla. Yeah, just to horse around.”

It’s probably fair to say the British royal family won’t be inviting anyone involved with Fox News to cover them anytime soon.
