Through all the royal drama, one constant in Meghan Markle‘s corner has been her close friend Serena Williams. The Suits actress and tennis legend have shared a tight bond for years, supporting each other’s projects—from Williams’ eponymous fashion line to Meghan’s 2018 cookbook Together. Meghan has also been a familiar face in the stands, cheering on Williams at major tournaments like the U.S. Open and Wimbledon.
However, recent developments suggest their friendship his faded, following Williams’ appearance at the 2026 Met Gala alongside two people who Meghan allegedly doesn’t have good relationships with: Emma Thynn and Edward Enninful.
Sources told RadarOnline that the Olympian’s decision to pose on the famous Met steps alongside Thynn and Enninful is “definitive proof” that Williams and Meghan might be going through a little rough patch.
“At a night like the Met Gala, nothing about who you stand beside is accidental—it is one of the most carefully observed stages in the celebrity world,” one insider said. “Serena choosing to spend so much time in close formation with Emma and Edward, both of whom have been linked to a cooling in their relationships with Meghan, inevitably reads as more than coincidence.”
They continued, “Whether she intended it that way or not, the visual narrative suggests a shift in loyalties, or at the very least a rebalancing of where those personal alliances now sit.”
“You have to remember how intertwined Serena and Meghan’s public images once were—they were regularly framed as confidantes, almost a united front navigating fame and scrutiny together,” the insider added.

This comes after a 2025 report from the Daily Mail claimed Meghan and Enninful, the former British Vogue editor-in-chief, are no longer friends. The two were reportedly “inseparable” at one time but have since “drifted apart.”
“Time and geography mean that Edward and Meghan just don’t get to see each other as much as they did when both were living in London,” a source close to Meghan told the outlet at the time.
According to insiders, their friendship came to an unexpected end following a disagreement over how British Vogue planned to feature Meghan and her charitable work.
“‘The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations,” a source explained, noting that Enninful “already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month.”
The project was scrapped shortly after, which left Enninful and Condé Nast “furious.” Despite these claims, other sources allege that the ex-working royal and Enninful are “intermittently in touch” and “have exchanged cards and flowers for one another’s birthday and text each other from time to time to offer support for one another’s ventures.”
