US President Donald Trump isn’t exactly known for sticking to protocol. And in things like a state visit from the King and Queen of England, protocol is paramount. But how did Charles and Camilla’s visit to the US go? Were there any big faux pas from the President?
RadarOnline is reporting that Trump is being accused of “disrespectful’ behavior after cutting ahead of Camilla in a greeting line. The King was going down the line, and as Camilla was shaking hands with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Trump cut in front of her to shake the hands of Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick. White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Queen Camilla then stop, seemingly surprised.

The reaction was swift. “Trump is so disrespectful. He literally cut in front of Queen Camilla while she was shaking hands. Every day is another embarrassment for our country,” one person said on X.
Another user added, “The host introduces the line-up to the diplomatic guest, who then shakes hands. The host does not push their way past to start shaking hands with their own cabinet lineup.” Then a third person said, “Trump is an embarrassment to the United States. Look at this disrespectful behavior.”

Everyone, however, seemed to be on good terms later in the day during a White House state dinner when King Charles gifted Trump a bell from a UK submarine that sank several Japanese ships in the Pacific during World War II.
Trump previously committed a similar blunder when meeting Queen Elizabeth II in 2018. As she led the way to the Guard of Honor, Trump walked ahead of her.
It wasn’t the only uncomfortable moment during the royal visit. During the state dinner, Fox News host Jesse Waters was pulled away from Queen Camilla after making a joke about gun violence. And Trump himself brought up the shooting as he and the first lady greeted the King and Queen Camilla on the South Lawn of the White House on Monday, April 27. Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the New York Post that Trump mentioned, “This shooting… .”
King Charles then reportedly said, “I’d rather not stand about here too long. I feel I shouldn’t be here.”
In a bizarre turn, the conversation then reportedly moved onto Russia’s dictator Vladimir Putin, with Trump telling Charles while out in the open, where everyone could see them, “So right now, I am talking to Putin. He wants war,” adding, “I’ve got a feeling… if he did what he said, he will wipe out the population.”
Hollywood Insider Rob Shuter reported that, despite all the conflicting reports, Charles and Trump actually got along quite well, though they didn’t see eye to eye on most things. “The King likes people who entertain him,” another insider said. “He doesn’t need everyone to agree with him. He needs them to be interesting. Donald is interesting. That matters to Charles.”
A source even told Shuter, “They are Washington’s new odd couple,” adding, “They have almost nothing in common on paper, and yet Charles genuinely seems to enjoy him.”
