It’s been over three months since Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy, was taken from her house by a masked assailant. And though the FBI and local law enforcement have been on the case from the beginning, we still have very little in the way of leads. What does that mean for those closest to Nancy? Well, as time passes, they have to find different ways to cope.
Savannah Guthrie, for example, was just announced as the host of NBC’s upcoming Wordle game show, and that has caused some people to express concern that she might be pushing herself too hard during such a complicated time. Hollywood insider Rob Shuter reported that people are paying close attention to her these days.

“People around Savannah are worried because she never stops,” one insider said. “She’s grieving, she’s under pressure at Today, ratings are tightening, and instead of slowing down, she keeps adding more work.”
It all comes as what the Today show needs is to keep the same faces. “NBC desperately needs stability right now,” a network source explained. “When your biggest star starts branching out this aggressively, people naturally wonder if her focus is shifting away from the show.”
But of course, people are also concerned about Guthrie personally. “Savannah is trying to stay strong on-air, but this has rocked her deeply,” one insider said. “Friends think work has become a coping mechanism. She’s filling every empty space with another project.”
Guthrie still has support, even if concern is real. “She’s one of the hardest-working people in television,” a source added. “The fear isn’t that she’ll fail — it’s that she’s carrying too much for too long.”
It all comes after a source told Page Six in May 2026 that Guthrie has been breaking down off-camera at the show. “She’s gotten emotional between commercial breaks,” they said, adding that she’s been able to regain her composure quickly, but that she remains very emotional.
“Sometimes a fan will say something sweet to her, whether that is a guest or a sign from a fan outside that makes her feel touched,” the insider explained. They also said that it’s all “to be expected” given the circumstances.
“It’s never going to be ‘business as usual’ for her,” the source continued, “but it’s important to her to put one foot in front of the other and keep going.”
Recently, forensic nurse Dr. Ann Burgess suggested that Nancy’s kidnapping is probably about Savannah. In the TV special NewsNation Presents: The Nancy Guthrie Mystery, which aired on May 6 on The CW, host Brian Entin asked Dr. Burgess about the potential motive, to which she responded, “Well, the motive—first you want to always ask who’s suffering the most of this, who is hurt the most?”
“And in this case, it doesn’t have to be the mother. It could be somebody in the family. Somebody— Savannah,” she said, explaining that the suspect might’ve wanted to see Guthrie “suffer.”
