Ryan Seacrest is widely known as one of the busiest individuals in the entertainment industry, balancing multiple high-profile hosting gigs like American Idol and Wheel of Fortune, as well as his radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest. It’s a pretty demanding schedule that requires plenty of long hours and very little downtime, which can naturally take a visible toll over time.
That said, Seacrest’s appearance has caught people’s attention in 2026, with fans allegedly pointing out changes in his face. This has sparked speculation online, with many wondering what happened and what might’ve led to the difference.
Seacrest has looked much slimmer and gaunt in recent appearances, with several fans commenting on the alleged changes in his facial structure. On May 9, 2026, RadarOnline took to Instagram and shared photos of Seacrest at the 29th annual UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation’s Taste For a Cure gala. Fans were shocked by his new “skeletal” look, noting that he appeared to have a more hollowed-out look in his cheeks at the event. “People stop destroying your body,” one person wrote in the comment section.
In response to the online chatter, board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Hovsepian weighed in, telling RadarOnline that the changes are unlikely to be the result of “aggressive plastic surgery.” Instead, he suggested it could be a combination of “significant facial fat loss, natural male aging, possible conservative aesthetic maintenance, and unforgiving lighting/video.”

“In men, even modest facial volume loss can look dramatic because male facial attractiveness depends heavily on structure, shadow, and skeletal definition,” Dr. Hovsepian explained. “When fat volume drops too much, the same definition that once looked youthful can begin to read as gaunt.”
Dr. Hovsepian also pointed to a phenomenon known as facial deflation, which can become more noticeable in men over time. He explained, “When rapid fat loss occurs, those transitions become harsher and more skeletal very quickly. A man can go from looking athletic and defined to looking gaunt or depleted in a surprisingly short period of time.”
Either way, sources close to Seacrest told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack that this transformation is “deeply personal.”
“Ryan grew up as a chubby kid and those insecurities never fully left him,” one insider revealed. “He was teased when he was younger, and even now he still sees that overweight kid in the mirror.”
Seacrest has been candid about the bullying he endured as a child because of his weight. During his time co-hosting Live with Kelly Ripa, Seacrest revealed that not being “in the greatest of shape” as a kid still stays with him and has even done damage his relationship with food.
“I cannot get past it, I’ve talked to our experts about it, but for some reason, I just cannot see that guy,” he explained on the show (per People). Ripa replied, “I understand, the things you are teased about as a kid, they haunt you for the rest of your life. You take them with you for the rest of your life.”
She also pointed out that Seacrest tends to be very focused on food, saying, “You spend a great deal of time fixating on what you’re eating and what you’re not eating and when you’re eating and how much you’re eating and how many times of day you’re eating.”
Seacrest reportedly follows a Mediterranean diet and practices intermittent fasting. He’s also mentioned starting his mornings with an olive oil shot because, as he told People in May 2023, it “actually helps with weight loss and helps with your inflammation, helps with all the different systems in your body.”
In a December 2023 interview with GQ, Seacrest said his workout routine is on constant rotation, but he still likes to “keep them pretty strict.” The host does his best to incorporate weights, jumping exercises, and cardio. Ahead of his 50th birthday in late 2024, he told Entertainment Tonight that he was “over-exercising, eating better, over-training” to reverse aging and “make myself feel 29 again.”
Despite fans expressing concern, Seacrest reportedly “thinks he looks great” and is “proud” of his dedication.
“This didn’t just happen overnight,” another source told Shuter. “Ryan has worked incredibly hard to look like this. The workouts, the diet, the fasting — he is extremely focused.”
They continued, “He feels healthier, more confident, and more in control than ever before. He truly could not be happier.”
