Family drama, thy name is the British royal family. Because every day it seems like two different members of the family are in the middle of a feud. The latest is Princess Eugenie and Prince Harry, who were reportedly very close before Harry and Meghan stepped back as senior royals.
What happened? RadarOnline is reporting that there’s renewed scrutiny over comments Harry made after the birth of his son Archie. At the time Harry said he and Meghan Markle would stop at two children because of concerns about overpopulation and environmental damage. Eugenie is now pregnant with her third child.

At the time, people interpreted Harry’s comment as a dig at his brother William and Kate Middleton, who had welcomed Prince Louis a year before the comments. And now the comments have resurfaced after Eugenie’s announcement. She and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, shared the news about their new baby on May 4 with an Instagram post featuring their sons, August (age 5) and Ernest (age 2), holding a sonogram. “Baby Brooksbank due 2026!” she wrote.
Reports indicate that, in hindsight, Eugenie is finding some issues with what Harry said. “Eugenie has always been incredibly family-oriented, and she thinks decisions about children are personal, not something to be moralized publicly. There is frustration that Harry’s comments came across as judgmental toward relatives with bigger families, and rather brutal. She is now raging he made them at all.”
It’s especially hurtful because the two used to have a very close relationship. “Harry and Eugenie historically had one of the warmest relationships in the family, but there is irritation now about the way his public statements have repeatedly been interpreted as criticism of the monarchy and the wider royal lifestyle.”
Harry’s comments came in 2019, after the birth of his son. At the time, he said, “We are the one species on this planet that seems to think this place belongs to us, and only us.” He also went on to add that he and Markle would stop at two children. The couple does indeed have two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Reports indicate that Eugenie wasn’t bothered about Harry’s environmental concerns, but by the implication that having a larger family was irresponsible. “Eugenie believes you can care deeply about the environment and still want a bigger family. What irritates her now was the tone of superiority people felt came with Harry’s comments.”
All of this comes as Eugenie is trying to distance herself from the controversy surrounding her parents, with new reports indicating she’s not as close to her father, Andrew, anymore. The Daily Mail recently reported that Eugenie has “cut off” her father and is “refusing to speak to Andrew and did not visit him at Christmas,” with another source adding, “There is no contact at all, nothing. It’s Brooklyn Beckham level – she has completely cut him off.”
The report indicated that Eugenie’s sister, Beatrice, was still trying, but Eugenie was not. “Beatrice, meanwhile, is trying to walk the fine line of not cutting her father off and yet remaining close with the Royal Family. They aren’t exactly in regular and close contact at the moment, but Eugenie isn’t trying to walk that line. She’s not speaking to him.”
Family drama everywhere.
