In late May 2026, Donald Trump Jr. married socialite Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas. Several family members were in attendance for the private ceremony, but two were noticeably absent: President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
Trump claimed he couldn’t attend due to his presidential duties, writing on Truth Social on May 22, “While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so.”
“I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina!” he said.
However, sources told Hollywood insider Rob Shuter that the real reason Trump skipped his son’s big day was that Melania allegedly “refused” to go. Melania has reportedly kept her distance from Trump’s older children and has little interest in spending time with them.
“Melania did not want to spend a full weekend with Donald’s adult children from previous marriages,” one individual told Naughty But Nice. “That tension has existed for years, even if nobody says it publicly.”
Melania and Trump’s son, Barron Trump, also missed out on Don Jr.’s wedding as he “remains largely disconnected from his older half-siblings.”
“Barron grew up in a completely different world from Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka, and Tiffany,” another source explained. “There’s emotional distance there, and everyone in the family knows it.”
This follows reports that Don Jr. considered holding his and Bettina’s wedding at the White House, an idea his father quickly dismissed.
“Don Jr. absolutely loved the idea of a White House wedding,” one insider told Shuter’s #ShuterScoop. “But Trump’s focus right now is legacy, the election, UFC, and global issues — not flowers, seating charts, and cake tastings.”
Another added, “The White House wedding idea quietly disappeared. Honestly, Trump sounded far more excited discussing UFC at the White House than wedding plans.”
