Pete Davidson is once again single. The comedian, actor and writer, better known for SNL, has officially broken up with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, just months after the birth of their daughter, Scottie Rose. But why did they break up? And who pulled the plug?
Insiders are telling Rob Shuter it was Davidson’s decision, and that Hewitt was trying really hard to make the relationship work until the end. “Elsie fought hard for this relationship,” one insider said. “Pete was the one who decided he was done.”

Reportedly, having a baby was very hard on the couple, particularly as the two weren’t even together for that long or had a very steady relationship before they got pregnant. “They confused intense chemistry with long-term compatibility,” the source added. “They thought having a baby would be exciting and bring them closer together. The reality was the complete opposite.”
Parenthood is hard.
Davidson and Hewitt started dating in March 2025 and learned they were expecting later in the year. And though they put on a good face for the cameras, there were apparently issues behind-the-scenes from the beginning. “Pete falls in love fast — way too fast,” another insider explained. “He jumps into relationships before really thinking anything through.”
Shuter also reported that Davidson will continue to provide for his daughter, but he’s simply not ready to settle down. Plus, he still needs to focus on his mental health. “The real problem is Pete is a deeply unhappy person,” the source said. “He needs to learn how to love himself before he can fully love someone else. It’s heartbreaking because now a child is involved, but honestly, this relationship never really had a chance from the beginning.”
Confirmation that Davidson will support his daughter comes after Hewitt responded to people saying she didn’t look camera-ready in paparazzi pictures with, “Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m exhausted okay,” she said. “(But) that’s not what I’m thinking about right now, because I have a baby to take care of, and I also have to work and make money, and I’m doing it on my own, which is hard.”

When she said this, a fan asked, “I hope you don’t mean you’re doing the financial part alone… that would be insane given the circumstances.”
In a now-deleted comment, Hewitt replied, “I am,” according to People.
A source close to Davidson denied this, according to RadarOnline. “Pete has made himself extremely available and has provided full financial support. Pete is actually covering all Scottie costs and more,” the source said. “He is hoping Elsie has good health and success for the sake of their daughter.”
The couple only made it about 5 months after the birth of their daughter. “Pete has been traveling so much for work, but Elsie was craving more support from him at home after their daughter was born,” a source told The Sun. “It was very hard for him because, obviously, he has to work to make money.”
Hopefully, some of that money will be put towards his daughter.
