“We’ve been contouring our lips for years, but what sets ‘Nina Park lips’ apart is how undetectable the contouring is,” says Connecticut-based makeup artist Lindsey Trop. “The technique is done in such a soft, diffused way that even up close it melts seamlessly into the natural lip, never reading as liner or obvious product.”

Trop says it’s all about intentional placement, with blurred shadow tones that subtly enhance the cupid’s bow to create the illusion of more height, while adding fullness through the center and just beyond. “The result is a lip that looks naturally fuller and more dimensional, rather than drawn on. Restraint is also key. “Even when there’s slight overlining involved, it’s so well-blended and thoughtfully placed that it never feels overdone,” Trop notes.

When giving yourself Nina Park lips, Trop says, “each step should be somewhat undetectable on its own, but together create a fuller, more dimensional lip.” Here’s how she creates a similar effect with a goal of “naturally fuller, softly sculpted lips.”
- Start with soft contour: Start with a cool-toned lip liner or a contour shade to define slightly outside of your natural lip line. “Focus on the cupid’s bow and the outer corners, then use a small brush or fingertip to diffuse, so there are no visible lines,” says Trop.
- Build natural color: The next step is to find a lipstick shade that is close to your natural lip color. Trop says to apply this nude lipstick to the center of the lips and then blend it into the liner, “so everything melts together seamlessly.”
- Add warmth and dimension: If you think you need it, you can use a lip liner that is slightly warmer than the one you started with and “lightly tap where the lipstick meets the contour,” says Trop. “This adds depth without making the lip look outlined.”
- Finish with subtle shine: Finally, add some shine to enhance the soft, pillowy effect of the contour. Trop recommends adding just a touch of subtle sheen to the center of the lips, similar to how you’d apply highlighter to your face contour.
