Following reports of another alleged assassination attempt against President Donald Trump, concerns have started circulating among many politicians and those close to him about the possibility of a further threats. Some are even pointing to Vice President J.D. Vance as a reason those fears are intensifying.

Vance was scheduled to visit Iowa on Thursday, April 30, 2026, for a campaign stop alongside U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn. He was also set to attend a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event at Iowa State University with current CEO, Erika Kirk. However, both engagements have since been canceled.

TPUSA, the nonprofit organization co-founded by the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, claimed (per Iowa’s KTIV) that Vance was “forced to cancel his appearance due to a scheduling conflict.” They also said his visit to Iowa State had been rescheduled for sometime in the fall.

Despite the organization attributing the last-minute changes to a scheduling issue, the decision came shortly after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting on Saturday, April 25. Guests were reportedly rushed to safety, including Vance and Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk.

Fox News anchor Bret Baier reported that he saw Kirk hiding under a table and later “crying in the back hall.” CNN’s Sara Sidner also posted a video of Kirk being led out by security, sobbing and saying, “I just want to go home.”

The moment was likely distressing given the assassination of her husband on Sept. 10, 2025, as well as previous threats made against her own life.

Kirk previously pulled out of an appearance at a TPUSA event in Georgia due to “some very serious threats in her direction,” according to spokesman Andrew Kolvet.

A source told Us Weekly that these alleged threats “were targeting her and her ability to get to and from the event.” They also claimed that Kirk’s security “felt that they could not protect her life.”

“So as you can imagine, for a mother of two young kids who just lost her husband in the way that she did, she felt that she had to take her security team’s advice,” the insider continued. “I think anybody would.”
