‘Walls’ Finally ‘Closing’ in on Nancy Guthrie’s Kidnappers After the Fatal Mistake They Made in Her Abduction
Every day we wait for good news on the Nancy Guthrie case, and every day it seems like we get absolutely nothing. It’s been over two months, and we still don’t know much about what happened to Savannah Guthrie’s mom. She was taken from her house sometime between the night of January 31 and the morning of February 1, yes. But no suspect has been identified, and no motive has been disclosed.
However, an FBI expert has suggested that Savannah Guthrie’s return to the Today show is anything but good news for the kidnappers, and that, in fact, at this point, “Walls are closing in” for them.

Former FBI agent Jason Pack told Page Six, “Every day that passes the pressure builds. Keeping a secret like this is exhausting. … and that gets harder with every morning that Savannah Guthrie sits behind that anchor desk.”
He explained that the circumstances of Guthrie’s visibility will make things hard for the kidnappers. “Most criminals in cases like this count on the media moving on,” he said. “They count on the family fading from public view. They count on people forgetting. This case is different. Savannah has a national platform and she shows up on it every single day. Every time a viewer sees her face, they think about her mother.”
And the more attention the case gets, the more “pressure on the people responsible goes up.”
“Add a reward of more than one million dollars and the full weight of FBI resources and you have a situation where the walls are not just closing, but they are closing from every direction at once,” he added.
The important part is this, according to Pack. “At some point, someone is going to have the courage to make that call,” he said. “One phone call from someone who decides the reward money matters more than their silence is all it takes to bring law enforcement directly to their front door.”
Savannah Guthrie returned to the Today show on April 6 to fans holding signs supporting her. “These signs are so beautiful. You guys have been so beautiful. I received so many letters, so much kindness, to me and my whole family. We feel it, we feel your prayers, thank you!” she said during that first show back.
This comes after recent speculation that the kidnappers made a “fatal mistake” when they “underestimated Ms. Guthrie’s health.” Detective Brian Martin, of Indiana’s Fort Wayne Police Department, spoke with NewsNation’s Brian Entin, and told him, “What really bothers me is we’re dealing with an elderly female, who’s not living, by all accounts, she’s not living an at-risk lifestyle,” Martin said. “It would appear to me that this is potentially driven by something monetary. They were hoping to get some kind of monetary reward or gain from doing this. That bothers me.”
In his estimation, the suspect likely thought they could kidnap her for a couple of days and then “leave her in a Walmart parking lot.”
“And then she has some sort of medical event before any of that could take place,” Martin said.
Nancy Guthrie had mobility issues and a pacemaker, which stopped syncing with her Apple Watch on February 1.
