Meghan Reportedly Wanted to Be at the Queen’s Deathbed to Prove She Was as ‘Important as Kate’ as Sources Claim She Had ‘1 Agenda’

A lot of the reports about Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton center around Markle being jealous of Middleton. Recently, there have been suggestions that Markle thought she’d make a better queen than Middleton and that Harry should be king instead of William. Whether that’s true or not, what is true is that Markle knew where Harry stood in the line of succession before she married him.
In the new book Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, royal author Tom Bower writes that Markle didn’t really care about the family’s estate in Balmoral, until the queen was dying—then she wanted to be there.

While on Kinsey Schofield’s Unfiltered podcast, Bower said, “She wanted to be there for the photo opportunity. She knew it was a historic moment.” Bower has been highly critical of Markle and Prince Harry, who have dismissed the book as a “deranged conspiracy.”
Bower continued, “She wanted to be there to show that she was as important as Kate and that she was part of the family on the eve of her return to back to America.”
Markle and Prince Harry were in the UK when Queen Elizabeth died on September 2022. “I mean, everything she did was completely motivated with one agenda, her own fame and importance. That’s why she wanted to go to Balmoral.”
We know from Harry’s 2023 memoir Spare that his family did not want Meghan at Balmoral during the queen’s final moments. Harry described getting into a fight with his father about it, “He said I was welcome at Balmoral, but he didn’t want…her,” Harry said.
He added that King Charles “started to lay out his reason, which was nonsensical, disrespectful, and I wasn’t having it. Don’t ever speak about my wife that way.”
The prince reportedly back down when he was told Middleton would not be present either. Kate stayed behind to pick up her and William’s three children from their first day of classes at a new school, while while William flew to Balmoral with his uncles, Andrew, Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie. Sophie was famously very close to the late queen.
“He stammered, apologetic, saying he simply didn’t want a lot of people around. No other wives were coming, Kate wasn’t coming, he said, therefore Meg shouldn’t. Then that’s all you needed to say,” Harry said.
In his book Bower also said that Markle didn’t understand how the institution worked. “The Royal Family is the nation’s family and a national obsession” he said, adding that “the royals may appear to be ordinary people, but to maintain the monarchy, they relied on the public’s willingness to treat them like God.”
“Clearly, she thought…I’ve come to the conclusion, with the help of others on the inside, that she really thought she, rather than Kate, should be the next queen after Charles,” the author also said. “She couldn’t understand why she was better looking, and in her view, more intelligent, harder working, and everything, should be the queen,” Bower went on to add.
“And she hated the idea that she and Harry were relegated so far down the order,” he also said. Harry is fifth in line to the throne, behind his brother and his three children.
